Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 pan with foil, spraying it with nonstick baking spray.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together melted butter and dark cocoa until smooth. Add sugar, eggs, espresso powder, and vanilla; mix until fluffy.
  3. In another bowl, combine salt, baking powder, and flour; gradually stir into the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Spread batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with sticky crumbs.
  5. Allow brownies to cool completely before preparing the coffee frosting by mixing heavy cream with instant coffee granules until dissolved. Beat softened butter with salt, then gradually add powdered sugar along with the coffee mixture until light and fluffy.
  6. Melt dark chocolate chips with heavy cream in short bursts in the microwave; spread over frosted brownies once melted.
  7. Let everything set before cutting into squares.
